Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop the technique for imparting pattern effect on Hanji paper with high quality using mordanting and chitosan printing. For dyeing, onion skin was re-utilized. The effect of chitosan printing on color and pattern formation were investigated. Also, colorfastness to light was evaluated for practical application of end products such as wall papers, package materials, paper crafts, etc. The results suggested that chitosan printing with onion skin dyeing was effective to pattern formation. Although dye uptake was not increased by chitosan printing treatment, there was sufficient color difference (¥ÄE*) so that patterns were clearly distinguished to have tone on tone color effect. Chitosan printing treatment increased the light fastness of dyed Hanji wall paper. It was confirmed the possibility to develop high quality Hanji wall papers with various color tones and patterns by applying chitosan printing and natural dyeing.
